Job Description:
As a Teaching Assistant at Poplar House School, this job description has been designed using the professional standards for teaching assistants. TAs will work closely with Teachers to support the delivery of high-quality education and assist in creating a positive learning environment for students. This role involves providing individual and small group support, assisting with classroom activities, and helping to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
General Responsibilities:
1. Provide support to students during lessons, helping them to understand instructions, tasks, and concepts.
2. Assist with the planning and preparation of teaching materials and resources. In addition, TA staff will support teachers with certain aspects of feedback to students.
3. Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning, provide additional support, and facilitate activities.
4. Help to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
5. Assist with behaviour management strategies and help to promote positive behaviour among students.
6. Support students with special educational needs or disabilities, implementing individualized support plans as required.
7. Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and engagement.
8. Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, organising resources, and preparing displays.
Specific Responsibilities:
Individual specific responsibilities to be discussed based on the needs of the school.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in education or related field is desirable; however, a good standard of English & Maths at GCSE level is required and other qualifications will be considered.
Previous Experience and Skills:
1. Previous experience working with children or young people in an SEMH/Autism independent educational setting is desirable.
2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
3. A good sense of humour and kind disposition is required in this role.
4. Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships around the characteristics of trust, respect, effort, and kindness with students and staff is a fundamental part of the role.
5. Flexibility and adaptability, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
6. A passion for education and a commitment to supporting student learning and development.
