Several exciting opportunities have arisen for qualified social workers to join the Adult Learning Disability Team based in Cardiff Adult Services following a restructure and internal promotions. We are seeking a Grade 7 Transition Social Worker to join the Learning Disability Teams. This is a great time to join the service as we have increased capacity to support staff development and strengthen our high quality services.
We are looking for Social Workers who have in depth understanding of the principles of Social Services and Wellbeing Act and who have skills in undertaking strength-based / outcome focused assessments and court work, as well as the effective management of a complex case load. Additionally, this post includes assessing risk and supporting people to manage these risks positively.
Experience of working with people with a learning disability and autism is essential.
Our Learning Disability teams are part of the directorate of Adults, Housing & Communities in Cardiff Council. As a directorate we recognise that Social Workers are skilled professionals who make a real and material difference to people’s lives every day. We have two Learning Disability teams that cover the East and West of Cardiff. Our staff work alongside a specialist health team and offer multi-disciplinary support to local people. We support individuals to access a wide range of services with a focus on inclusion and supporting people to meet their outcomes.

About the job
We have a Grade 7 Social Work full time opportunity available in the Learning Disability Community team within Cardiff Council’s Adult Services.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate a passion for enhancing people’s lives, creativity, flexibility, ability to work as a part of the MDT and on their own, be willing to learn new skills and participate in training.

Alongside regular supervision and peer meetings you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of training courses and practice enhancement to build on your portfolio of continual professional development.
What We Are Looking For From You
1. A qualification in Social Work.
2. Registration with Social Care Wales.
3. Enthusiasm and passion for making a difference to the lives of young people and adults with a learning disability.
4. A strong value base and willingness to actively work with a strength-based social work at the heart of your practice.
5. Experience of staff supervision.
6. Experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities.
7. A willingness to learn commitment to excellent practice.
8. A willingness to learn and develop assessment skills and a clear understanding of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014.
9. A commitment to developing confidence and knowledge in operating within the Mental Capacity Act legal framework. We will help you to gain experience of Court of Protection work and process.
10. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of citizens is an expectation of all who work in the service area.
11. The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.
