An independent construction consultancy in Preston is seeking a skilled Principal Designer to join their dedicated team.
Known for delivering high-quality, client-focused services, this consultancy specialises in CDM and health and safety advisory services across a wide range of projects.
The Principal Designer Role
As the Principal Designer, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, managing design risk, and embedding health and safety best practices across all project stages. You will collaborate closely with clients, design teams, and contractors to provide expert guidance and support throughout the design and construction phases. Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver Principal Designer duties in line with CDM 2015 regulations.
2. Conduct design risk assessments and develop hazard elimination strategies.
3. Prepare and review pre-construction information and construction phase plans.
4. Provide CDM and health and safety advice to clients, architects, and contractors.
5. Attend site inspections and client meetings to ensure regulatory compliance.
6. Collaborate with the wider project team to ensure health and safety is fully integrated.
7. Support junior team members in their development.
The Principal Designer
1. 3 + years of experience as a Principal Designer or in a similar role within construction.
2. NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
3. Membership with APS (AaPS, IMaPS, or CMaPS) or commitment to gaining accreditation.
4. Ideally, CertIOSH or working towards it.
5. Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and construction health and safety.
6. Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
7. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
