Job description
Risk Analyst Full time, permanent Location – Flexible
Closing date – 25 February 2025
Who we are:
We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.
You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers and business champions. We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.
About the role:
Drax is undertaking our biggest challenge to date, to enable a zero carbon, lower cost energy future. In this role you’ll be a key part of our Generation Risk team, who identify the risks we face, understand the potential impacts and details how these risks could be reduced across our power generation assets, biomass and our Customers business who supply electricity to UK businesses.
Joining Drax you’ll be part of a team looking at the risks associated with a diverse range of commodities used within our business. You’ll understand trading activity, provide risk commentary and reports to enable the business to understand its risks and improve our commercial and cash outcomes as well as playing a key role in ensuring our risk management policies are followed.
Day to day you’ll provide risk analysis and reporting to ensure that all open positions are compliant with, and in the spirit of, the Commodity Risk Management Policies (“CRMPs”). You’ll work alongside the Trading teams to understand their strategy and determine any risks associated with it, how we can mitigate these risks and ensure there is appropriate transparent reporting. You’ll discuss potential risks and mitigations with the teams you collaborate with, these may be on a day to day basis or part of a project and be involved in drafting and presenting your analysis to Drax’s Senior Commercial Leadership team at our regular Risk Management Committees
Who we’re looking for:
This is an analytical role, so you’ll need good numerical and analytical skills, either from your previous role/s or academic studies. You’ll have intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Excel that will ideally be coupled with some programming experience such as Python, SQL or R.
With strong communication skills, you’ll relay complex data and results to both trading and non-trading teams and be comfortable presenting your findings to senior stakeholders in the business.
You’ll develop good working relationships at all levels within the organisation with the support of your colleagues within the team and those colleagues you work with throughout the wider business.
Rewards and benefits:
As you help us to shape the future, we’ve shaped our rewards and benefits to help you thrive and support
your lifestyle. If successful in this role you’ll get:
· A discretionary bonus depending on company performance
· Private Healthcare with Vitality
· SAYE (Sharesave): discretionary scheme from time to time
· Personal accident cover
· Group personal pension plan where we’ll pay up to 10%
· Holiday 25 days plus bank holidays
· Reimbursement of the cost of your annual membership of one relevant and appropriate professional body
We’re committed to making a tangible impact on the climate challenge we all face. Drax is where your individual purpose can work alongside your career drive. We work as part of a team that shares a passion for doing what’s right for the future. With Drax you can shape your career and a future for generations to come.
