To provide support to young people with High Needs by removing barriers to learning in order to promote effective participation.
To facilitate the delivery of education programmes to small groups and individuals under the direction of tutors/managers.
To ensure that learners are kept safe at all times.
To be responsible for ensuring that work undertaken within the service area is conducted in line with statutory regulations and within Service Area, Directorate and wider Council guidance and best practice.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Contribute to delivering and developing services to children, young people, families and carers in line with agreed financial plans and wider directorate and council-wide priorities, always seeking to ensure that outcomes for service users are maximised.
2. Contribute to service area, directorate and corporate projects which enable the Local Authority to meet key national targets, priorities and initiatives.
3. Contribute to the development of policy, procedure and standards in own service area which contribute to the delivery of excellent services, align to local and national priorities and inform future council strategy and resource priorities.
4. Maintain professional knowledge of national initiatives from appropriate bodies such as the Departments for Education and for Health. Use professional knowledge and understanding of political agendas to contribute to service strategy and development.
5. Contribute to the achievement of appropriate requirements in preparation for and as a result of inspections and reviews including those by the DfE and Ofsted inspection regimes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Contributing to the identification of the support needs of young people with High Needs.
2. Being a key worker for learners as directed by appropriate managers, ensuring barriers to accessing learning are addressed including supporting bursary applications.
3. Contributing to the speedy and effective transfer of information between services, settings and families.
4. Undertaking initial, formative and summative assessments, developing personalised materials and strategies.
5. Participate in accreditation processes as appropriate to the learners under the direction of managers/tutors.
6. Work closely with others to achieve a full and shared understanding of the needs of individual young people and contribute to target setting as part of the EHC process.
7. Providing personal care, first aid and medication as appropriate.
8. Ensuring all safeguarding and health and safety processes and protocols are in place, adhering to LLS and policies and OFSTED requirements.
9. Develop and maintain appropriate mentoring relationships with young people and those engaged with them.
