Job summary Ensure the provision of information and support on a Trust wide basis to people affected by cancer and will be responsible for the day to day running of the Macmillan Patient Information and Support Service. Using expert knowledge, initiative and service development skills, the post holder will be responsible for establishing and developing specialist cancer information across the Trust at ASPH and in line with the local and national strategy and in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Services. Based at Ashford Hospital but working across all hospital sites, the post holder will meet the information and support needs of cancer patients and any affected by cancer, including staff, working in collaboration with hospital Trust, local hospices and local cancer network services. In collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support, the post holder will be responsible for the training and support of the ASPH Patient Information Volunteer Service and volunteer complementary therapists. Looking for an experienced leader with excellent advanced communications skills who has a strong interest in supporting patients with cancer with a clinical or non clinical background. This is a newly created post funded by Macmillan to ensure the success of the new build Macmillian Cancer Centre that is currently underway and opening formally in the late Spring 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of creating a supportive information and support service to the people within the geographical area of the Trust. You will be influential in the initial set up and onwards management toexcellent service provision. It is a hands-on role that allows for your utilisation of people skills and additionally give excellent attention to detail with your managerial approach, giving rise to the smooth running of the facility day to day. ' Main duties of the job Recruit, train and support a team of volunteers as part of the service with the support of Macmillan Cancer support and the Trust Volunteer Service Act as a Lead for Cancer Patient Information, working closely with the cancer healthcare team within the Trust and the cancer Networks to ensure that we are meeting requirements for cancer information as set by the Cancer Long Term Plan. Work with stakeholders and users to develop a strategy for the effective provision of high-quality information and support to people affected by cancer in the ASPH Geographical catchment area, based on user needs, and local and national cancer plans.
