Staff Nurse - Cardiology/Haematology/Endocrine (Band 5) (NHS AFC: Band 5) - Ward 1 - Cardiology - Airedale NHS Foundation Trust
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust – Steeton, West Yorkshire
An exciting opportunity has become available for a band 5 registered nurse to work on the Acute Cardiac Care Unit / Ward 1 at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The ward is a fast-paced and exciting environment to work in, offering great opportunities to develop as a cardiac nurse. You would be joining a well-established team and would be well supported through your development.
This role will require a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to multi-task, provide support to other members of the team, and deliver excellent patient care. As Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, (in conjunction with Bradford Teaching Hospitals) is a teaching hospital, you are also expected to be a role model to our student nurses, nursing associates, and medical students. You will be expected to maintain a 100% compliance with mandatory training and to adhere to all hospital policies including the uniform policy.
Cardiology experience is preferred; however, we do offer a comprehensive cardiology training package. Excellent communication skills are paramount as you will be liaising with a wide range of departments from within the Trust and with other cardiac centres within the cardiac network. You will work alongside our discharge coordinator to ensure safe and effective movement into and out of the ward to ensure effective flow of patients throughout the Trust.
The Acute Cardiac Care Unit has 4 Coronary Care Beds, 4 side rooms, and 24 ward beds; the ward currently has the ability to remotely monitor 8 patients via telemetry, which is likely to be expanded to other areas in the Trust in the near future. We work closely with Leeds General Infirmary, cardiac rehabilitation nurses, heart failure specialist nurses, cardiorespiratory department, and cardiac catheter lab. The ward staffing ratios have been established to reflect the fact that we regularly take level 2 patients (Safer Nursing Care Tool). We also provide ward-based specialist care to a small number of Endocrinology, Haematology, and Oncology patients.
As a staff nurse, you will care for patients with a wide range of conditions including MI’s, heart failure, arrhythmias, valve disease, endocarditis, angiography, and pacemakers, while being supported in gaining essential time management, prioritisation, delegation, and leadership experience. With the opportunity for academic leadership development, e.g., Edward Jenner programme, and taking charge of the unit when competent to do so. You will play a vital role in supporting the Unit on our pathway to excellence.
