Accelerated Craft Electrician Programme
Role Description
The Enhanced Craft Electrical Trainee (ECET) position is a transitional training role within M&E Services which, subject to the successful completion of an intensive training programme, will enable the postholder to progress to the role of Enhanced Craft Grade (ECG) Multi-skilled Electrician.
As an ECET you will have already achieved a recognised level 3 Electrical Skills qualification and will be expected to undertake a programme of training associated with the maintenance and repair of a wide range of electromechanical equipment used in the water industry. This will prepare you for the ECG role which will primarily involve Craft Electrical maintenance activities supplemented by an element of mechanical activities.
During training you will work as part of the maintenance team and will receive support, guidance and mentoring from experienced colleagues who will demonstrate through “on the job” training, the necessary skills to be attained. Additionally, depending upon your level of previous experience, you will have a tailored development plan to enable you to develop the skills required to operate the wide range of specialist equipment and processes relevant to the water industry. You will also have access to attend supplementary college-based training programmes and other specialist training, (if considered appropriate) to enhance your exposure to our unique technologies and practices.
As part of the Accelerated Craft Electrician Programme, you will have an unrivalled opportunity to learn from our expert team, benefit from full training on new and exciting technology, develop your skills and enjoy a unique and rewarding career. We will also provide all the tools, equipment and resources needed to do the job safely and effectively.
Development will be regularly monitored and assessments aligned to individual skills elements must be satisfactorily completed to allow you to progress. The ECET training programme will continue until deemed competent or up to a maximum of 12 months (whichever is earliest). The opportunity exists for accelerated progression to the ECG grade if sufficient skills assessments are completed earlier (which may be within 3 months if deemed appropriate).
The ECG grade requires the delivery of a maintenance service as part of a dedicated team to support a range of electromechanical and associated devices and equipment across NI Water’s asset base. This role will involve participation in a standby rota with weekly frequency typically ranging between one in four to one in six. You may, be required to participate in an on-call rota during your training to observe and provide a supporting role in readiness for appointment to the ECG grade.
