We have a new exciting opportunity for a Transport Manager to lead our logistics teams at our site in Preston. The role holder will play a critical part in ensuring the efficient, safe, and legally compliant operation of the company’s transport activities for our Preston location as well leading a team of nine people.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensuring that all vehicles within the company’s fleet adhere to UK transport regulations, including health and safety laws, environmental policies, and any other relevant legal requirements
• Keeping up to date with changes to regulations and implementing necessary updates within the fleet operations
Fleet Management:
• Overseeing the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all vehicles to ensure optimal operational safety and efficiency
• Managing vehicle inspections and ensuring that all relevant certifications and MOTs are kept current
Driver Management:
• Recruiting, training, and supervising drivers to ensure they are operating vehicles safely and professionally
• Ensuring that drivers comply with company policies and road safety regulations, including working hours and rest periods
Operational Efficiency:
• Developing and implementing strategies to optimise delivery schedules, reduce operational costs, and improve overall service efficiency
• Managing the route planning process to ensure timely deliveries and collections, while minimising fuel consumption and wear on vehicles
Health and Safety:
• Ensuring all transportation operations are carried out with a strong focus on health and safety
• Investigating and reporting any incidents or accidents involving company vehicles, and taking corrective action where necessary to prevent future occurrences
Reporting and Budgeting:
• Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the transport department, including costs, vehicle performance, and regulatory compliance
• Managing the transport budget effectively to ensure cost-efficiency without compromising service or safety
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
* Experience as a Transport Manager with a CPC qualification
* Full UK driving licence
* Experience route planning and cost control
* Excellent organisation skills
* Strong health and safety knowledge
* People Management experience
