We are seeking to appoint an inspirational Head of Mathematics to lead the Department which delivers dynamic and effective Mathematics lessons to Years 4-8, including Common Entrance and Scholarship to Eton, Harrow, Radley and many other distinguished senior schools. In addition to their teaching, all our full-time teachers are expected to participate fully in the wider life of the school according to their talents and interests.
Within the Department
1. To lead and implement the Mathematics curriculum, including being aware of any changes to the syllabus.
2. Oversee the continued development of the curriculum in conjunction with the Headmaster and Deputy Head (Academic).
3. Promote the Department throughout the school, ensuring high levels of enjoyment and achievement.
4. Encourage and develop the standards of the pupils.
5. Manage and take responsibility for the Department budget, resources and facilities.
6. The devising of all policy documents (including departmental handbook) pertaining to the work done in the Mathematics Department.
7. To advise and delegate responsibility for certain aspects of the departmental administration.
8. To oversee the teaching of Mathematics lessons within the school to ensure the highest quality delivery.
9. To devise, organise and maintain schemes of work, resources, record keeping, tracking of learning and guidance for differentiation.
10. To attend appropriate courses and meetings and to guide INSET for the Department.
11. To prepare regularly updated material for inclusion on the website.
12. To staff the Department with appropriately trained teachers.
13. To observe, monitor and report on lessons taught by all staff within the Department, reporting to the Headmaster.
14. Provide considered accurate feedback to parents through written reports and meetings and to advise them on any problems that may arise.
15. To identify exceptional talent and to stimulate it.
16. To be aware of all children with additional learning needs and to provide them with activities suited to their ability.
Teaching
1. Be responsible for Mathematics teaching throughout the school.
2. Prepare candidates for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams to senior schools.
3. To lead the preparation of boys up to the ISEB Pre-tests in Year 6.
4. Plan and prepare resources for lesson keeping in mind the latest curriculum initiatives.
5. Keep up to date with subject knowledge and understanding.
6. Assist with cover requirements, where necessary.
7. Liaise regularly with the Senior Management Team to develop learning and pupil outcomes.
Pupil Progress
1. Oversee pupil review processes and procedures.
2. Monitor the progress of individual pupils.
3. Make appropriate interventions that enable all pupils to achieve their full potential.
4. Report to parents.
5. Take part in parents’ mornings.
6. Provide extension activities for More Able and Talented pupils.
General
1. To follow the school’s code of conduct and behaviour as laid down in the Staff Handbook and the terms of the signed employment contract.
2. Contribute to and adhere to school policies.
3. Contribute to co-curricular activities.
4. Attend staff meetings.
5. Participate in staff training days, curriculum meetings, open days and parents’ meetings.
6. To undertake a share of duties as may reasonably be requested by the Headmaster.
7. To promote the ethos of the school to pupils, parents and other acquaintances.
8. To promote all aspects of good behaviour and community living within the school in line with the school ethos.
9. To present a smart and professional approach to everything done with the school and in the school’s name in any location.
