Interim Housing Lawyer - Legal Services
Bristol
Candidates must be able to travel to Bristol when required but this role is mainly remote.
Key Requirements:
1. Qualification to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx.
2. Demonstrate ability to undertake advocacy and negotiations.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of local government law and the law in relation to the practice area.
4. Have a working knowledge of business and teamworking applications, for example Microsoft 365 or equivalent.
This role is for a lawyer to work on defending Housing Disrepair claims made against the Council. The lawyer will work in a small team dedicated to this area of work. Previous experience and knowledge of the area is required. This role may involve advocacy but will involve robustly defending a high volume of claims, liaising with client departments and Counsel.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and representation to the organisation and external customers.
2. Be responsible for court cases within their area of specialism.
3. Undertake advocacy, representation and advice in courts, tribunals, committees and panels.
4. Keep legal knowledge up to date, to carry out legal research and maintain a thorough knowledge of existing and new legislation in relation to practice area.
5. Provide support and assistance to legal officers in the Litigation Regulatory and Community Team.
6. Provide training to the legal services division, council officers and customers within their area of specialism.
7. Assist the specialist lawyer in managing the relationship with the service area relevant to their area of practice.
