The vacancy
We are seeking a dedicated Specialist in Functional Skills to join our Apprenticeship Functional Skills Team. This role involves delivering high-quality Functional Skills (FS) in English and Maths to apprentices, coordinating and enhancing FS delivery, and supporting apprentices’ progress and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver Functional Skills: Teach and assess FS in English and Maths through group sessions, 1:1 delivery, and distance learning.
2. Coordinate and Develop FS Delivery: Prepare learning materials, coordinate apprenticeship programs, and ensure quality assurance.
3. Monitor Progress: Review apprentices’ progress, adapt learning experiences, and employ effective teaching strategies.
4. Employer Liaison: Manage relationships with employers to support apprentices and FS delivery.
5. Engage with Departments: Collaborate with Maths and English departments to ensure smooth transitions for apprentices.
6. Participate in CPD: Engage in continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date skills and practices.
Essential Criteria:
7. Qualifications: Appropriate teaching/professional qualifications (or working towards) GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent)
8. Experience: Relevant experience in education and training delivery Experience in teaching/training/assessing Functional Skills Experience in both classroom-based and work-based settings
9. Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to handle sensitive information
10. Personal Qualities: Strong organizational and administrative skills Ability to work collaboratively and independently Good interpersonal skills, including empathy

Lets Teach Programme
Let’s Teach The LET’s teach programme supports new members of teaching staff in terms of college systems and key teaching and learning areas including new staff lesson visits and postcard peeps. Each new member of staff has an allocated Lead Practitioner who works closely with them throughout the programme.
Let’s Bloom
The LET’s Bloom Programme aims to connect our experienced and qualified teachers to share best practice and support continued risk-taking as we continue to add depth to our teaching craft. Teachers volunteer on this one year programme, working closely with the Learning Enhancement Team, capturing their experimentation in a journal.
