Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment. We now have an opportunity for a Vocational Instructor to join our team at HMP Parc to manage and supervise the vocational workshop and assigned prisoners, ensuring all qualification targets and delivery are achieved or exceeded, whilst adhering to all applicable local and national policies including Security, Health and Safety and Regimes. They will also be required to ensure the workshop is compliant with Awarding Body Standards at all times. Some of the key responsibilities are; Assist the Vocational Training Manager in using local and national LMI data to review current provision to ensure the course is relevant to local job vacancies and skills shortages. Continual development of own course and delivery, providing the prisoners with skills and expertise to achieve success and to support prisoners into employment on release. Liaise with RAU continually to ensure maximum occupancy of resourced activity spaces Set SMART objectives for your learners to ensure that they meet and adhere to the GLH for the qualification being delivered. Provide ideas for discussions during staff meetings to suggest any new ideas for course delivery, IQA process, continual improvement of delivery etc. Attend Awarding Body meetings, events, webinars etc. to ensure knowledge is current and disseminate this information to fellow vocational instructors (if with the same awarding body) Develop employer and community links and assist in visits from employer engagement events to promote the workshop and activities carried out within. Identify any Security related issues and address via security intelligence reports so that the necessary actions can be completed. Ensure security is maintained as a high priority within the workshop. Ensure that all tools are accounted for at the start and end of each shift and that should any tool contain blades, that these are checked also. Any tools that are missing must be reported immediately. Ensure that prisoners are attired in the correct levels of personal protective equipment as per the workshop risk assessment and the specific risks involved. Assist in the completion of the workshop risk assessment and safe systems of work. Through FM, ensure all workshop machinery and equipment is serviced and maintained regularly as per the manufacturers guidance and requirements. Ensure risk assessments, safe systems of work and COSHH assessments for the workshop are reviewed and updated annually and are completed for any new work / tool / equipment / activity introduced. Ensure the workshop Health and Safety Guidance Folder is maintained correctly to ensure compliance within the workshop. The Ideal Candidate: The successful candidate must be qualified to formal education standard and hold a PTTLS and EAT Level 3 or similar. They must also be able to demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, Health & Safety and Service Industries. With good organisational, communication and planning skills the successful candidate will have the ability to problem solve and motivate self and learners, and they must have an understanding of curriculum Cymraig and Estyn.
