Opportunity:
Looking to transition into a mentor/leadership style role? Join one of the UK's most recognised multidisciplinary environmental consultancy firms as their new Principal Ecologist. You'll be taking on a leading role, being responsible for both personnel and business development across the company. As the new Principal Ecologist, you will have the opportunity to work and deliver on a variety of engaging, nature positive projects, handling both personal projects and overseeing the work of your junior team members. You will be working for a company whose focus is an emphasis on the improvement of the world, ensuring you'll be properly equipped with all the tools to succeed, whether that be physical equipment or paying for memberships, licenses and courses to expand your professional skillset.
Responsibilities:
As stated, one of the main responsibilities of this role will be to act as a leader, mentor and supervisor as well as contribute to the overall management of the ecology team. This will mean ensuring both your projects and your team's projects are completed to a high standard within a given time frame. Alongside this, you will be assisting in the coordination of ecological surveys and assessments and the presentation of the results they provide. Some of the reports to be written and presented will include EcIAs, BNG reports, EPS licenses, Habitat Regulation Assessments and Protected Species Reports. When speaking with clients, you will need to be professional, able to provide relevant ecological advice, produce budget quotes and tenders and maintain as well as develop business relationships with new and existing clientele. You will be responsible for your own personal development, keeping yourself up to date with current UK policy and legislation, training and industry change.
Requirements:
To be a successful candidate, you'll need to have a significant amount of ecology experience ideally within a consultancy setting. You will also need to be a full member of CIEEM, have relevant project management experience and have been involved in a variety of surveys, assessments and ecological projects whilst supervising/line managing a team of less experienced individuals. To do this, you will need to be able to train and mentor your team members, supporting their professional growth as well as be able to work collaboratively within your team and other branches of the company. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle is also essential as you will be travelling between the office and varying sites. The role is a hybrid role with the expectation to be in the Essex office at least twice a week.
