The Research Department at Dorset County Hospital is looking for a new management role for an experienced line manager and/or manager business manager with a goal to developing their skills in a dynamic new environment.
The Research Department is going through a period of exciting change, with strategic goals of sustainability, growth and widening research participation and awareness in West Dorset, and is seeking a likeminded individual to help the teams achieve their goals. The ideal applicant will have experience in line management and/or business management, whether inside or outside Research/the NHS. Most crucial is that the ideal applicant be driven to learn and take on new challenges, and applicants experience in one of these key areas with a drive to develop their skills in the other will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The role will be responsible for the line management of a team of 7 experienced research project managers covering research portfolios supporting a team of clinical delivery staff, including supporting their learning and development and other line management activity.
The role will be responsible for taking forwards a Business Development Plan, with the support & oversight of the Senior Leadership Team, to realize the department's strategic goals of financial stability.
Working for our organisation
The Research Department consists of 7 Research Project Managers (RPMs) supporting a team of Research Nurses, Midwives & Paramedics (NMPs) across a diverse range of portfolios.
The Senior Leadership Team consists of a joint Head of Research & Clinical Lead, a Research Pharmacy Lead, a Research Governance & Quality Lead & a Deputy Clinical Lead.
The team have a strong focus on achieving our strategic goals through joint working, supporting each other and our learning and development, and quality improvement. We are passionate about helping our staff achieve more, and our department grow, and looking forward to another individual passionate about being a part of new developments joining our team.

Essential criteria
* Good Standard of education to minimum of 4 GCSEs including Maths and English (E)
* Appropriate degree/diploma or equivalent level of experience (E)
* Specialist knowledge relating to clinical research delivery including research finance management (E)
* Significant and recent operational middle management experience involving budgetary, staff and service management in an acute hospital setting (E)
* Experience in the management and delivery of significant organisational change programmes (E)
* Evidence of experience in developing and implementing service/business planning (E)
* Leadership skills demonstrating ability to influence and negotiate successful outcomes (E)
* Ability to identify and apply at all levels appropriate and responsive communication mechanisms (E)
* Proven ability to manage and work effectively as part of multidisciplinary team (E)
* Able to demonstrate innovation with strong analytical skills (E)
