JOB TITLE: Support Worker (Waking Nights)
LOCATION: Morning Star House, 2-12 Divis Street, Belfast, BT12 4AD
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Service Manager & Deputy Service Manager
SALARY: £29,206 – £30,785 per annum
HOURS OF WORK: 46-hour week (3 on – 3 off rota)
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent

JOB PURPOSE: To be part of the support team within Morning Star House assisting with the provisions of temporary accommodation and 24-hour support services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. GENERAL TASKS:
o To be part of the staff team assisting Morning Star House to achieve its aims and objectives.
o To communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and residents to ensure a comprehensive service is provided.
o To plan & manage the workload effectively.
o To positively encourage, support and implement the ethos and traditions of MSH.
2. ENSURING OUTCOMES FOR CLIENTS:
o Provide support and advice to clients.
o Ensure that referrals are booked in and out of Morning Star House effectively and efficiently ensuring that voids are managed effectively.
o Undertake assessments of client need to ensure that referrals are fairly assessed with regard to their accommodation and support need.
o Ensure that immediate risks associated with any challenging behaviour are identified, communicated to staff, and all reasonable steps are taken to mitigate the risk.
o Establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and report concerns to management.
o Liaise with external support agencies to ensure coordinated services and maximise opportunities for clients.
o Develop person-centred support plans and risk management plans, leading the team in this development.
o Promote client participation and principles of good customer care.
o Keep detailed case records on each individual key client.
o Monitor rent and service charge payments, reporting concerns to Management Team in a timely manner.
o Assist residents with individually tailored resettlement plans.
o Accompany clients to appointments as needed.
o Manage breaches of the licence agreement sensitively and efficiently, reporting and recording all breaches.
3. HEALTH & SAFETY AND POSITIVE HOUSEKEEPING:
o Ensure compliance with Morning Star House Health & Safety Policy and procedures.
o Contribute to the physical cleanliness standards within Morning Star House.
o Ensure fire safety equipment is monitored and tested regularly.
o Act as First Aider and/or Fire Warden as required.
o Ensure all areas of the accommodation are safe and secure for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
o Ensure that no banned, illegal, or prohibited goods are brought onto the premises.
4. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:
o Attend supervision, training, and meetings as required.
o Participate in the setting and achieving of individual and scheme goals.
5. REPORT WRITING:
o Provide written reports and information as requested.
o Support in the provision of statistical information on referrals, clients’ assessments, and other relevant management information.
6. POLICIES & PROCEDURES:
o Work within and promote all Morning Star House policies and procedures.
o Ensure that the Equality and Diversity Policy is actively promoted.
o Awareness of and adherence to all relevant financial procedures and regulations.
o Promote Morning Star House’s commitment to clients and user involvement.
7. PROMOTING AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
o Positively promote the work of Morning Star House.
8. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Take responsibility for the hostel in the absence of the Management Team.
o Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to work.
o Treat others with respect and promote understanding.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
o Qualified to at least Grade A-C GCSE / O-Level in English & Maths or Equivalent.
o Current NISCC registration (Part 2) or must achieve registration by end of probationary period.
2. SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE / TRAINING:
o Ability to competently use ICT systems for communication and record keeping.
3. PERSONAL SKILLS:
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Ability to read and understand written reports and write clear and accurate records.
o Maintain confidentiality.
o Prioritise workload and client support work.
o Manage personal/professional boundaries.
4. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Ability to carry out waking night work.
o Ability to carry out moving and handling tasks.
o Prepared to work unsocial hours.
5. DISPOSITION:
o Flexible and adaptable to change.
o Understanding of the value placed on vulnerable adults and those experiencing homelessness.
o Willingness to work as part of a team.
