My client is seeking an experienced and strategic Operations Director to lead their pensions business. The role will have operational oversight across the regulated SIPP and SSAS business. The post holder must have the credentials to meet the regulatory standards for FCA Senior Management Functions (SMF1 and SMF3) and be an established leader with the vision and capability to manage a SIPP and SSAS pensions business.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the growth of the firm, promote excellent standards of customer service and competence, ensuring that procedures are efficient and meet regulatory requirements and lead the existing management team to achieve their best.
This is a critical role for a seasoned professional who can influence at the Board level, engage with staff, and drive forward their strategic plans for the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Oversight
1. Develop, lead, and execute strategy in alignment with the Group’s strategic objectives.
2. Establish a clear vision for excellent customer service to both end customers, financial adviser firms, and partner firms.
3. Lead the ongoing development of an efficient and integrated SIPP and SSAS pensions operator and trustee.
4. Provide expert leadership to the SIPP and SSAS teams ensuring alignment with the Group’s policies, values, and risk appetite.
Regulatory Compliance and Oversight
1. Hold the SMF1 and SMF3 designations, with responsibility for carrying out the management and the conduct of the firm.
2. Establish robust governance structures to ensure effective oversight of business operations and compliance with regulatory requirements.
3. Ensure that the firm complies with all relevant regulations, including the FCA’s rules and guidelines. This involves staying updated with regulatory changes and implementing necessary adjustments.
4. Identify, assess, and manage risks that could affect the firm’s stability and reputation. This includes setting the risk appetite and ensuring that risk management practices are in place.
Governance and Policy Development
1. Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies that provide for maximum efficiency whilst reflecting regulatory requirements and best practices.
2. Implement technology first solutions for operational policies and procedures.
3. Ensure effective governance structures are in place across all entities, maintaining rigorous internal controls to support business objectives.
Team Development and Management
1. Lead, mentor, and develop the management teams, promoting a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement, excellent customer service and regulatory excellence.
2. Oversee the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of staff, ensuring the business attracts and retains talent.
Strategic Partnerships
1. Develop strategic partnerships with adviser firms and platforms to continue growth. Work with those strategic partners on an ongoing basis to ensure the business retains those relationships.
2. Oversee the smooth operation of business with strategic partnerships.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Professional Certifications: FCA-approved individual or in a position with experience that would enable the individual to hold SMF1 and SMF3 designations.
2. Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a senior manager or Director role within the financial services sector, with a critical focus on Pensions (SIPP/SSAS) and knowledge of Wealth Management would be an advantage.
3. Education: Relevant Professional Qualifications from ICA, CISI, CII, etc. preferred.
4. Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of FCA regulations and familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to pension administration.
5. Leadership: Proven track record of leading multi-functional teams across different entities, with the ability to influence and drive a strategic vision at a senior management or Board level.
