Reporting to: Manager Product Design
Direct Reports: None
Job Grade: P1
Standard Hours: 35 hours per week - Monday to Friday
BMI UK&I have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Junior Product Design Engineer to join the team.
Role Summary
Design solutions under the guidance of senior colleagues using CAD and simulation software for innovation projects involving roofing products, systems and solutions to support the manufacture of roofing products.
To provide support to Technical Center colleagues, marketing and supply chain and support on company know-how to ensure products and key equipment are manufactured to specification.
Travel and work on-site globally to execute and implement value-adding solutions within time and resource budgets.
As the Junior Product Design Engineer, your key responsibilities will be:
* To assist in the development of new innovations and products.
* To interpret design specifications correctly and produce designs acceptable to customers.
* Agree and complete assigned tasks from senior colleagues to meet the product specification.
* Ensuring compliance with CTSD protocols e.g. Standards, Company Quality system, Risk Assessment, Marketing Brief, Process Specifications, validation processes, reporting tools, ensuring consistency, quality and accuracy.
* Understand the role of the Department and the key commercial and manufacturing drivers of the business.
* Provide technical support for field tests to prove the suitability of designs produced.
* Carry out testing to validate designs prior to product release.
* Be aware of technical developments in the relevant fields.
Your key skills and experience will include:
* Designer with training or experience in product development.
* Degree or equivalent in relevant STEM or Product Design subjects.
* Skills in 2D and 3D CAD.
* Workshop and prototyping skills.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
* Good team working and time management skills.
* Experience using office applications; e.g. Google Workspace or MS Office.
* The ability to learn quickly when working to tight time scales.
* Prepare reports for approval by senior technical staff on complex issues in a readily understandable way, so that non-technical staff can make best use of our output for commercial gain.
* Skills in simulation (e.g. CFD, FEA) - Desirable.
* An understanding of the processes involved in a design and production environment - Desirable.
* Experience of the roofing business - Desirable.
* A working knowledge of one or more European languages is an asset but not essential - Desirable.
