Pastoral Support Tutor within an SEN (Special Educational Needs) School:

Newstaff education sector are seeking a Pastoral Support Tutor on behalf of an SEN school in Bedford. We are looking for an experienced professional that is committed to providing high-quality education and holistic support to students with diverse needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) challenges, and learning difficulties.
In this role, you will:
1. Provide one-to-one mentoring and tutoring role to specific pupils as well as supporting staff in providing a therapeutic and nurturing environment for all pupils.
2. Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to contribute to all aspects of the pupil’s well-being.
3. Act as a trusted mentor, offering guidance, motivation, and emotional support.
4. Support students in managing emotions and overcoming barriers to learning.
5. Assist in promoting a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
1. At least 12 months experience working with children and young people with SEN, SEMH, or other additional needs.
2. A compassionate, patient, and nurturing approach.
3. Strong behavior management and de-escalation skills.
4. The ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
5. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and an understanding of mental health challenges in young people.
6. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work qualifications) – desirable but not essential.
