Chelmsford City Racecourse, the UK’s newest racecourse, is looking for a Commercial Events Manager to help create and assist in a wide variety of commercial events while developing the racecourse into one of the most versatile venues in the UK.
The Commercial Events Manager is a key role in the design and delivery of a range of events and experiences at Chelmsford City Racecourse. The position manages a number of areas, from concerts and festivals to activities and entertainment, both on racedays and outside racing.
The main purpose of the job will be to manage the range of income generating events that take place on-site. Success will combine delivering on financial targets, carefully managing income and expenditure budgets, and ensuring that all visitors have a great experience at Chelmsford City Racecourse events. This will include playing a key role in developing content for events.
The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator and be proactive in working with colleagues to deliver phenomenal events. Strong commercial acumen and an eye for detail are also essential.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Reporting to the Head of Commercial Events, you will work from concept to delivery assisting in delivering the events while providing a seamless offering to clients. You will assume the responsibility for specific areas of the operation and perform roles as required on build up to and during event days. This role is an exciting, hands-on position, involving on-site event management and planning.
Working closely with the Head of Commercial Events, you will develop a strategic and financial plan for commercial income generation, alongside a marketing and communications strategy to achieve it.
Through direct and referral channels, you will enable the organisation to reach the right types of audience and deliver events that suit our spaces and generate income, constantly developing and diversifying our earnings potential.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Assisting the Head of Commercial Events with raceday commercial event elements and non-raceday commercial events such as concerts, festivals and family entertainment days
* Accurate planning of load in, break and load out
* Co-ordinate relevant information with other departments within the racecourse
* Promptly responding to supplier queries
* Conducting site visits
* Procuring suppliers through a cost comparison and suitability assessment
* Ensuring event budgets are managed, updated and adhered to
* Completing and updating function sheets for each event
* Managing aspects of the operation during events to deliver an excellent experience for customers
* Practical on the day management and ownership of your allocated events
* Building and maintaining strong industry and agency relationships
* Assisting in the set-up & breakdown of events as and when required
* Updating venue listings and websites, as and when required
* Utilising the site to maximum commercial potential on racedays and non-racedays
* Delivering events that are successful for both the guests and the business
* Approaching the role from an entrepreneurial perspective, exploring new opportunities and working closely with the team on creative ideas for outreach and marketing

QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience in event management within a venue or an events company
* Experience working on a wide range of commercial events

* Promoting, marketing and operation of events
* Understanding of technical and production equipment
* Knowledge or qualification in health and safety regulations pertaining to live events
