We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, dynamic and inspirational senior midwife to lead the Birthing Centre at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH).
You will need to be able to demonstrate the requisite level of competencies at band 7 and provide evidence of on-going professional development. Further education is encouraged, including support to attend relevant courses to maintain personal and professional development to meet service needs. We offer comprehensive in-house training packages as well as having strong links with local Universities.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the Birthing Centre, including:
* Providing leadership to the multidisciplinary team
* Planning and implementation of flexible staff rosters and annual leave
* Maintenance of adequate staff levels and skill mix
* Environmental assessments
* Encourage and support innovative practice and multidisciplinary teamwork
* Lead in development of clinical audit and guidelines
* Lead in incident investigation and care reviews
* Development of staff
* Monitoring of staff wellbeing at work
* Budget management
Job responsibilities
* To take responsibility for the efficient and safe management of the Birthing Centre
* To be responsible for midwifery care standards and to maintain high clinical standards
* To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards.
* To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which:
* (a) engages, enables and empowers others
* (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement
* (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications
* 1st Level live NMC required Registered Midwife
* PP126/127 or equivalent
* D32/33 or equivalent
* Registered Mentor
* Leadership Course
* Management Course
* Diploma or Degree in Midwifery
* ALSO Course
* NLS Course
Experience
* Previous experience at Band 6
* Experience of co-ordinating a team
Skills & Abilities
* Counselling & appraisal skills
