Job Summary
An exciting, community-focused opportunity has arisen to work in the Wolverhampton Bowel Cancer Screening Centre covering Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Cannock.
The health promotional specialist role requires close interactions with NHS England, community groups, and other bowel screening professionals as the programme extends its reach to patients on bowel cancer awareness. We are looking for individuals with operational experience, process improvement skills, and high levels of attention to detail. A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who can work well as part of the Bowel cancer screening team to address health inequalities in our catchment area is essential. Main Duties of the Job
1. Lead on strategic and operational development for targeted health improvement for the Wolverhampton Bowel Cancer Screening team and be responsible for the long-term strategy and its implementation.
2. Reduce barriers and inequalities to bowel cancer screening across the catchment area and increase uptake in deprived areas.
3. Deliver a programme of evidence-based health promotion activities with Primary Care and Community Groups to reduce barriers to Bowel Cancer Screening.
4. Have a clear understanding of the Bowel Cancer Screening service and pathways to enable information sharing at appropriate forums/community events.
5. Integrate the issues of Bowel Cancer and its prevention within a wider health programme in primary care and community settings.
6. Develop a range of projects and initiatives to engage difficult-to-access groups with the programme using evidence-based health promotion activities and project management expertise.
7. Co-ordinate, analyse, and monitor activities across all stakeholders within the catchment area.
8. Use expert knowledge of evidence-based community development techniques to engage and support diverse populations within the eligible age range.
9. Assess the needs of the population to create and provide appropriate health information considering language and literacy and ensure availability when required.
10. Monitor and evaluate outcomes data and act on any emerging trends for service development.

Job Responsibilities
1. Use a range of health promotion techniques to engage and support a diverse population of people eligible for screening.
2. Work closely with the management team within the screening centre to develop a health promotion strategy.
3. Develop relationships with stakeholders (charities, health services, local authorities) to deliver key bowel cancer screening messages.
4. Work with NHS comms teams to develop targeted resources and communication tools.
5. Support and train Specialist Screening Practitioners (SSPs) where appropriate.
6. Be an active member of the Bowel Cancer Screening team, attending key meetings and providing formal reports.
7. Support health champions within targeted groups to reduce barriers to participation.
8. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives.
9. Collect and analyse complex data to inform future developments.
10. Prepare and deliver reports and audits as required.
Person Specification
Essential
* Masters Level Education
* Operational Management and/or Public Health Experience
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable
* Knowledge of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
* Understanding of health promotion methods, approaches, principles, and practices
* Proven experience of improving health through community involvement
