You will be building, improving and delivering critical systems and supporting UK Biobank operations while contributing to and following processes to reduce delivery times, enhance security, and improve customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
* Develop software that delivers new features, improves on existing functionality, and generates early value.
* Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC) and provide operational support to UK Biobank systems.
* Participate in the secure development life cycle to ensure software is designed, developed, deployed, and operated securely.
* Plan, write, and deploy clean, scalable, testable, and secure code.
* Perform secure coding practices specific to the programming languages and techniques being used.
* Setup and configure environments, platforms, and services, including containers, databases, pipelines, and images.
* Perform front- and back-end development, including using SQL to manage databases.
* Integrate software components with third-party programs.
* Follow Agile practices from Kanban and/or Scrum as directed by the Development Lead.
* Support planning events and work with the Development Lead and Product Owner to define requirements and priorities, agree on goals and tasks.
Is this 'you'?
* Significant experience using a modern object-oriented development language/framework such as Java.
* Demonstrable experience working in a software development product team and with a product owner in a medium-sized enterprise.
* Experience writing testable, readable, and maintainable code.
* Broad understanding of enterprise application development.
* Strong knowledge and experience in using SQL to manage data in relational database systems.
* Strong knowledge and experience in the software development lifecycle.
* Knowledge of the secure development lifecycle as set out in ISO27001:2022.
* Experience in security testing in development and acceptance.
* Understanding of and commitment to the values and principles expressed in the Agile Manifesto, and their importance in software development.
* Strong knowledge and experience of Agile methodologies, in particular Scrum and Kanban.
