We are currently recruiting for experienced Software Developer to work on a permanent contract in Birmingham.
The role will be based with a UK Police Force, and so applicants must undergo national security checks.
The role is primarily office based and hours of work are Monday to Friday.
The salary for this position is £42,897 per annum.
Role Overview:
The IT & Digital department is responsible for the force’s adoption and use of information and digital technology. The department consists of three core functions as follows:
1. Architecture Management (responsible for identifying and selecting the right technologies for the force)
2. Delivery Management (responsible for delivering and implementing the right technologies for the force)
3. Service Management (responsible for managing and maintaining all live, operational technology for the force)
Main Responsibilities:
1. Assist with the production of low-level software designs for IT solutions in line with force requirements;
2. Develop and maintain IT solutions in one or more of the following domains – web development, mobile app development, software integration;
3. Participate in development meetings;
4. Provide specialist software development expertise in one or more of the following areas – web development, mobile app development, software integration;
5. Ensure in-house applications meet or exceed agreed business requirements and user expectations;
6. Liaise closely with product owners and senior users to ensure customer satisfaction;
7. Create and maintain application documentation to the required standards;
8. Provide specialist software skills and knowledge to ensure the security and integrity of the Force’s software used in the ‘dev’ and ‘test’ environments are maintained to the required standards;
9. Work closely with teams within Service Management to transition new services into the ‘live’ environment, ensuring that they are provided with end-to-end support documentation for all software facets;
10. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of software development languages, tools and techniques;
11. Manage incidents and service requests to meet the needs of the force and make best use of the resources available;
12. Resolve complex problems and issues within the team – liaising with different departments or third-party suppliers where necessary;
13. Assess and recommend software products.
Experience:
Must demonstrate proven experience and ability to:
1. Develop, maintain and integrate a variety of software solutions;
2. Translate business requirements into software designs;
3. Develop the knowledge and skills of team members;
4. Create and maintain technical documentation to high standards;
5. Understand business and user requirements;
6. Research new and emerging software development tools and techniques;
7. Directly communicate with customers at a variety of levels using written and oral methods;
8. Participate in meetings;
9. Maintain standards for security of information.
Knowledge:
1. An excellent knowledge of software development;
2. A good knowledge of software development methodologies;
3. Knowledge of national standards and legislation regarding infrastructure technology;
4. A good understanding of ITIL, in particular Change and Release Management;
5. Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relevant to the post;
6. Knowledge of internal financial processes.
Software Skills:
1. Internet or intranet-facing C# .NET Core web sites with MVC or Razor Pages
2. SQL Server
3. Visual Studio
Highly Desirable:
1. Vue
2. Progressive Web Apps
3. Deployment to load balanced and mirrored cloud infrastructure
4. Automated build, deployment, performance and test processes
5. Angular, Ionic and Cordova
