Job summary Fixed term, one day a week and remote working opportunity in a pilot working with patients with Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical psychologist to join a new pilot service for supporting adults with type 1 diabetes and disordered eating (T1DE) living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The vacancy has arisen due to maternity leave and the service has already gained benefit from the input of a psychologist, and they are very keen to ensure this continues. The role can be done virtually if necessary and the team are very flexible. This is one of only seven services in the country to have been awarded funding by NHS England. This is a initially a short term contract to the end of March, working one day a week, with a likely extension to March 2025 and the potential for further extension. The Type 1 diabetes service, which theT1DE service falls under at University Hospitals Leicester, is led by Prof Pratik Choudhary, who holds a national and international profile in type 1 diabetes management. You will work closely with a highly skilled diabetes multidisciplinary team across a range of tasks, such as providing specialist assessment and psychological therapy to those with diabetes and disordered eating. There are opportunities to contribute to furthering local team understanding of T1DE, as well as supporting training in the diabetes team you will primarily be working into. Main duties of the job As the lead psychological practitioner in the UHL T1DE service, you will work with other members of the MDT to provide quality psychological triage, assessment and hold a small caseload of time-limited psychotherapy treatment to patients living with type 1 and disordered eating. There is also opportunity to attend the type 1 MDT to input to wider team case discussions. You'll have opportunity to utilise your clinical supervision skills, supporting the diabetes specialist nurse and diabetes specialist dietician, working collectively to ensure timely individual interventions are provided and that medical and psychological risks are managed. You'll also contribute to the leadership of the wider T1DE service, working with the team lead and operational colleagues. You will need to have contact with wider partners including the locally provided eating disorder service, medical psychology and secondary mental healthcare. Experience of working with Type 1 diabetes and experience of eating disorders, will be a great benefit or an openness to learning more about this interesting area.
