Job Title: Site Engineering Lead Location: Glasgow Region Salary: £55k to £60k Protea Recruitment is currently working with a client in the food manufacturing sector who is seeking a hands-on Site Engineering Lead. This role requires a proactive leader with a 50/50 mechanical and electrical skillset to oversee maintenance activities, drive performance improvements, and ensure the smooth operation of a fast-paced manufacturing site. While automation experience would be beneficial, it is not essential. Key Responsibilities: Lead the engineering department, ensuring a balanced mix of mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain and improve production efficiency Develop and implement the site’s engineering strategy, focusing on maximising overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and minimising downtime Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the engineering team, fostering a strong culture of continuous improvement Oversee planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring minimal disruption to production. Hands-on involvement in troubleshooting and fault-finding of both mechanical and electrical systems. Support automation initiatives where applicable but maintain a strong focus on practical, hands-on engineering solutions. Manage engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment Effectively communicate engineering strategies and progress to senior stakeholders. Qualifications & Requirements: Hands-on engineering leader with a strong background in food manufacturing or FMCG environments. Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in engineering, or extensive relevant experience in a leadership role. Proven experience managing and developing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment. Strong 50/50 mechanical and electrical maintenance skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns effectively. Experience with automation and controls would be beneficial but is not essential. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and adaptable approach. Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.
