Breaking News Correspondent, UKI
This position will be based in London, UK.
Reuters is seeking a top journalist to join its UK & Ireland bureau as a breaking news specialist, dedicated to speed and excellence in everything they do, whether it be winning news breaks and writing swift updates or crafting a quick sidebar and spotting a viral moment.
The successful candidate would become a core specialist, supporting the wider bureau by monitoring live online events, TV broadcasts and social media feeds, sending headlines and building coverage in the first crucial minutes of a breaking news story.
The UK is one of the most important bureaus worldwide for breaking news, so the successful candidate must be at home covering a variety of stories at speed for all our major client groups, from a post-Brexit trade deal or a Bank of England surprise to a security alert in London or the birth of a royal baby.
As Breaking News Correspondent, UKI, you'll work under the direction of the UK & Ireland Bureau Chief and also coordinate closely with the visuals team on breaking news.
About the Role
As a Breaking News Correspondent, UKI at Reuters, you will:
1. Spot the news first and deliver it to our clients first
2. Maintain the bureau’s excellent timings record
3. Snap news clearly and accurately, and write quick stories and updates
4. Craft engaging headlines and clear, contextualised updates, consistent with Reuters standards.
About You
To be a Breaking News Correspondent, UKI at Reuters, you will likely have:
5. A passion for speed and accuracy
6. Excellent news judgment across the file
7. Very strong writing skills
8. Good communication skills and ability to work well in a tight-knit team
9. Experience handling major breaking news stories and directly injecting copy
10. An ability to work calmly under pressure
