Job summary
This is a Group role across the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire, requiring regular work at both Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The purpose of this role is to support in increasing the number of volunteers in the Volunteer Services department through effective marketing, recruitment, retention of volunteers, and coordination of voluntary programmes. Success will be measured by the growth in the number of volunteers and volunteering hours across the group and the retention of existing volunteers.
The postholder will possess leadership skills to coordinate volunteers and ensure the service meets the Trust's demands. They will assist in the coordination of training for new and existing volunteers and support the Head of Volunteer Services with the implementation of volunteer initiatives.
Main duties of the job
Growth
Targeted to increase the number of volunteers across UHN by working with the local community to promote the services and benefits of volunteering.
Communication
Represent volunteer services across the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire as a visible team member. Negotiate sensitively with volunteers and staff to undertake voluntary activities in high-demand areas.
Liaise with patients, relatives, carers, and visitors with tact and discretion, especially when conveying sensitive information. Ensure effective communication to clinical/non-clinical areas, clearly identifying tasks that can be undertaken by volunteers.
Maintain confidentiality in all communications and ensure documents and sensitive information are secure.
Prepare outward-facing communications promoting volunteer services internally and externally.

Job responsibilities
Planning and Organisation
Plan, organise, and implement voluntary activities that meet the operational demands of the organisation. Organise quarterly meetings with clinical/non-clinical staff.
Coordinate the administration function within the office ensuring effective recruitment of volunteers. Work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends as needed.
Raise staff awareness of the role and function of volunteers and create sustainable volunteer/wellbeing initiatives.
Recruitment and Retention
Conduct wellbeing calls to volunteers and oversee recruitment workflow, ensuring diversity and inclusivity in advertising. Actively grow the number of volunteers through strategic outreach and support.
Resource management
Manage a caseload of over 100 volunteers, ensuring accurate data management and reporting on volunteer utilization and retention rates.
Training and Competency Development
Coordinate and deliver training for volunteers, ensuring compliance with NHS standards, and conduct quarterly reviews to assess training needs.
