Job Title: Trainee Underwriter
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 and up to 20% bonus and benefits
Location: Hybrid from our Blackpool office
There is a requirement for you to work from the office up to 5 days per week while you are pre-competent/training.

The Trainee Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for underwriting mortgage applications in line with lending policies, TCF principles, and other relevant regulatory requirements. They’ll work within a team to positively contribute to the delivery of departmental and business key performance objectives, along with liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders to maintain quality relationships.

As a Trainee Underwriter at Tandem, your focus will be on:
* Individual performance and contribution to achieve KPI’s set by the business.
* Owning individual performance and personal development.
* Accurately assessing income sources, bank statements, credit, and valuation reports.
* Underwriting and approving residential mortgage applications within authorised mandate.
* Recommending any cases outside mandate to the relevant mandate holder.
* Ensuring all cases hold a robust documented rationale for the lending decision.
* Managing broker expectations, prioritising tasks, and caseload in line with agreed SLA’s.
* Responding to all underwriting queries.
* Approving mortgage applications for drawdown of funds.
* Maintaining an excellent level of fraud awareness to identify and protect the company from fraudulent activity.
* Effectively and professionally communicating with the introducer network, responding to enquiries in a timely manner and resolving any queries or issues.
* Maintaining a good level of knowledge of the relevant industry sector.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
* Experience working within the operations of a 1st or 2nd charge mortgage lender.
* Detailed understanding of the mortgage industry, regulation, and legal requirements.
* Ability to work independently, managing your own pipeline of cases.
