Director of External Relations (Fundraising & Marketing) Diocese of Bristol Full time Hybrid (2-3 days per week in Bristol) £63,000 pension The Diocese of Bristol is the Church of England for over one million people living across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Wiltshire and Swindon. It covers a diverse and contrasting range of contexts and brings together over 200 churches, 70 church schools, a range of chaplaincies and networks of faith seeking to be a church for and serving all people in all places. Around 18,000 people worship regularly in our churches and 18,000 children and young people are educated in a church school. As a diocese, we have been on the leading edge of some of the issues the Church of England has faced up to in recent decades – the first diocese to ordain women as priests and to declare a climate emergency, we have been willing to learn from outside the Church and sought robustly to address our failings in relation to safeguarding and racial justice. This is an exciting time for the Diocese as we implement our vision and strategy to take us through the 2020s and beyond. We are looking for an extraordinary person who, as a key member of the Diocese of Bristol Senior Leadership Team (SLT), will bring a track record of successful strategic and operational leadership gained in a complex and diverse environment. Our new Director of External Relations will be responsible for: Implementing the Diocesan of Bristol’s Fundraising, Marketing, Communications and Income Generation (FMCIG) strategy; in order to raise its profile, increase income and build partnerships across the public, private, and third sectors. Ensuring that the Diocesan strategy feeds into the operational FMCIG activity and that their team runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Sharing in the management and leadership of the Diocesan Support Services as part of the SLT, playing a vital part in the direction and culture of the organisation. We are seeking a credible leader with senior level experience in fundraising and marketing, who is sympathetic to the vision and values of the Church of England. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be a strong relationship builder, able to work with flexibility and humility in a values driven culture which you will embody. You will have the ability to see the big picture whilst commanding the detail and demonstrating a clear commitment to our mission. This is a truly exciting time to be joining us, and a remarkable opportunity to use your skills to make a huge difference to people’s lives. If you have the right experience, the drive and hunger to raise our profile, generate new income and campaign for social change, and are prepared to be a high profile ‘Engagement’ pathfinder for the Church of England in Bristol, we want to hear from you.
