RSK is currently recruiting for Geotechnical Engineers/Engineering Geologists to join our well-established geotechnical consultancy team in Hemel Hempstead. We seek candidates with at least two to three years of relevant experience in planning and supervising ground investigations.
The geotechnical consultancy team provides services to both the RSK Group and external clients, handling projects from infrastructure to housing developments across the UK.
The Geosciences team within RSK is one of the UK's largest geotechnical and contaminated land consultancies, with plans for growth. It benefits from ownership of Structural Soils Ltd, Ian Farmer Associates, Central Alliance, and CJ Associates, enhancing our market-leading capabilities.
Role: Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist
Successful candidates will assist with geotechnical projects across the UK, under the guidance of the Team Leader or project staff. Responsibilities include:
1. Conducting geotechnical desk studies, geo-hazard, and site appraisals.
2. Overseeing ground investigations and subcontractors.
3. Soil and rock logging to current standards and laboratory scheduling.
4. Compiling data and preparing geotechnical and geoenvironmental reports.
5. Preparing earthworks documentation per DMRB HD 22/08 standards.
6. Engaging in geotechnical analysis and design of slopes, earthworks, foundations, and retaining structures.
7. Participating in geoenvironmental site assessments.
8. Traveling to different sites within the UK, with occasional overseas assignments of 1-2 months.
This role offers the opportunity to work on major projects with a diverse range of clients, gaining broad consultancy experience early in your career. The work involves site supervision, investigations, and office-based analysis and reporting, with flexible hybrid working arrangements.
Person Specification
* A second degree in geotechnical engineering is advantageous.
* Aiming for Chartered status (e.g., CGeol/CEng) and membership of relevant institutions.
* Post-graduate professional experience.
* Good understanding of geology, site investigations, and ground engineering.
* Strong report writing skills.
* Proficient in MS Word and Excel; experience with CAD, GIS, and geotechnical software is preferred.
* Experience with GI specifications and contract documentation is a plus.
