About the role.
Heading the Development Department and reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Director of Development will be responsible for generating income to meet the Cathedral’s various objectives. Playing a critical role, the postholder will grow our supporter base, maximise fundraising opportunities and lead multi-million-pound fundraising campaigns, including our ambitious estate development programme.
Working closely with the Senior Executive Team, you will share in the leadership of the Cathedral and its operations while leading and motivating a Development Team of two. You’ll also collaborate with the communications team and other heads of departments to identify projects and fundraising opportunities.
You will be responsible for producing and delivering a strategy to generate funds for capital projects, develop our existing legacy programme, and grow our local network of major donors and grant-giving bodies. This will include managing our close relationship with associated but independent charities (The Friends of Winchester Cathedral, and Winchester Cathedral Trust).
Who we are looking for.
We are seeking a dedicated senior high-value fundraiser to drive our high-value fundraising activities and ensure the success of significant fundraising campaigns.
Person specification:
* Experience in developing and delivering fundraising strategies for both specific campaigns and general income.
* A proven track record of raising significant income through high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations, public fundraising campaigns, and growing a regular supporter base.
* Experience in leading and developing a successful team.
* Experience in fundraising in the heritage sector.
