Safety Assurance headed by Captain Base Safety (CBS), provides self-regulation and assurance of compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements on behalf of the Naval Base Commander (NBC), the Authorisee.
The Nuclear Site Safety Sub-Committee (NSSSC) is a sub-committee of the Clyde Nuclear Safety Committee (CNSC) and forms part of the due process safety management arrangements required for compliance with DSA02 – DNSR, Authorisation Condition (AC)13.
The purpose of the NSSSC, as part of due process, is to provide robust independent assurance, challenge and advice on the adequacy of Safety Submissions, produced at HMNB Clyde when considering nuclear safety significance.
The NSSSC Chairperson provides assurance to Projects Due Process Assistant Head, CBS and NBC that safety submissions are consistent with regulatory and legislative requirements / expectations including ONR/DNSR TAGs, TIGs & SAPs, IAEA Standards and WENRA Reference Levels.
As the NSSSC Chairperson you will have the opportunity to:
Assess safety case documentation for proposed modifications to current infrastructure and operations as well as new installations in readiness for the next generation of nuclear submarines at HMNB Clyde, providing confidence and assurance to the Authorisee that risks are being adequately managed.
Influence the development of fit for purpose safety case documentation providing feedback to the Design Authority on the adequacy of the safety submissions presented when considering relevant good practice, the nuclear safety significance of the documentation, and compliance with regulatory expectation.
Contribute to the development of nuclear safety strategies, plans and policies, and influence the implementation of good practice as part of continuous improvement.
Expand and deepen knowledge and experience in specific nuclear, and regulatory topics, however successful applicants will already have demonstrable experience in the field.
The NSSSC Chairperson is integral in ensuring the functional output of the NSSSC meets the requirements of DSA02-DNSR, AC13 compliance.
