Location: Birmingham (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join a high-performing Contract Management team based in Birmingham, supporting the delivery of major renewable power generation projects across the UK. This role sits at the heart of large-scale, technically complex developments and offers outstanding long-term progression opportunities within a leading energy organisation.
About the Role
As Principal Engineer, you’ll bring deep technical understanding and commercial awareness to the contract management of some of the UK’s largest clean energy projects. You’ll work closely with engineering, legal, and commercial teams to resolve disputes, manage risk, and ensure the successful operational delivery of high-value contracts.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage technically complex, large-scale contracts across a multidisciplinary contract management team
* Lead technical and engineering input across wind, solar, biomass, waste, tidal stream, or comparable technologies
* Support contract execution, claims management, and dispute resolution
* Apply your deep expertise in renewable power generation systems, such as electrical infrastructure, energy conversion processes, or grid integration
* Collaborate with commercial teams to analyse and solve complex contractual and commercial challenges
* Provide clear, concise communication and reporting to technical and non-technical audiences
* Manage and develop relationships with a broad stakeholder base, including contractors, legal advisors, engineers, and project sponsors
About You
* STEM degree (preferably at master’s level) or equivalent experience
* Chartered Engineer or working towards professional accreditation (preferred)
* Strong electrical and mechanical engineering background, with the ability to advise on a wide variety of renewable generation assets and distribution technologies
* Significant experience in contract management for major construction or energy projects
* Broad technical knowledge in renewable power generation systems
* Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks in infrastructure delivery
* Excellent commercial acumen with experience resolving multi-million-pound contract issues
* Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills
Please note: This is a senior-level engineering role that requires a strong track record in contract management and delivery of major infrastructure or energy projects. It is not suitable for graduates or early-career engineers.
