The SLT team in Bucks are looking for a band 6 SLT to join us. This post can also be considered as a band 5 development post.
The post is 3 days a week with the long term conditions SLT team, and 2 days working with the Community Neuro Rehab Service. Regular support and clinical supervision will be provided.
You will join a team of therapists who are passionate about high quality community care. You will work with patients with communication and swallowing difficulties related to a range of neurological conditions, respiratory conditions, frailty and at end of life. You will be supported to develop advanced skills in dysphagia management, to deliver therapeutic interventions and to work with AAC users.
The post holder will be required to travel throughout the county including Amersham Hospital, Rayners Hedge in Aylesbury, Buckingham Hospital, patients’ homes and care homes. You will be supported to lead the provision for our community ward and clinics in the North of the County, working from Buckingham Hospital as needed.
The post holder will work closely with our SLT colleagues in the acute hospitals, acute/rehab stroke wards and the voice/H&N service. This provides the opportunity to work collaboratively across the care pathway.
This post is perfect for a therapist looking to extend their knowledge and skills in outpatient rehabilitation and community care. As a team we have low waiting times enabling us to offer timely support and intervention to our clients.
The post holder will be a member of a team of therapists working throughout Buckinghamshire. They will work alongside senior therapists and have access to support. They will be accountable for their own actions, recognising professional boundaries and competencies. They will work as part of the the community long term conditions speech and language therapy team and the community neuro rehab service. As a Specialist SLT, the post holder will be independent in completing assessment, treatment and management of people with speech, language and swallowing difficulties and will demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning / diagnostic skills.
The post holder will
· Manage a defined caseload and work autonomously, with regular support/supervision from the speech and language therapy team.
· Identify, assess and make a differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing impairments and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective treatment.
· Develop clinical skills and professional knowledge through experience, training and supervision and to work towards developing competencies in agreed areas of patient management.
· To take part in supervision of the work of SLTs, SLT assistants, SLT students on placement and volunteers when required.
To take part in the development and delivery of training to others.
