The Council is a large two-tier authority with an annual spend of approximately £500 million on goods, works, and services. The Strategic Procurement Team also provides procurement services to a number of external clients including District and Borough Councils.
A rare opportunity to join the Procurement Management Team at Nottinghamshire County Council has become available. The Council is seeking to recruit a Category Manager to lead and manage the Adults and Public Health department as part of an award-winning and proactive procurement team.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
This strategic role is one of four Category Managers (all have line management responsibility for 4 or 5 officers) who report to the Head of Procurement. In this role, you will be required to plan, drive, and deliver collaboration and effective stakeholder management to embed and apply a best practice commercial and procurement approach to external and in-house spend, providing support and challenge across the procurement lifecycle to deliver value for money outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will have excellent stakeholder management skills, a positive ‘can do’ attitude, and in-depth public sector strategic and operational procurement experience with knowledge of category management, sourcing methodologies, and conflict resolution.
The successful applicant will be a procurement professional with broad public sector procurement experience, managing high-value and complex tenders. You will be technically competent with experience in delivering complex projects working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the Council. You will have an understanding and experience of social care and health services.
This experience will be supported by a detailed working knowledge of local government procurement regulations to provide technical advice and guidance to clients and demonstrate the ability to coach and advise team members through the complexities of public sector procurement. You will also have up-to-date knowledge of the new Procurement Regulations. You will be passionate about delivering sustainability and championing social value while achieving a successful balance between both innovation and meeting corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Please refer to the attached person specification for the full criteria.
We encourage you to contact Kaj Ghattaora, Head of Procurement via email at kaj.ghattaora@nottscc.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
