About this role Mental illness is very prevalent in residential aged care, including anxiety, mood disorders and psychosis. As the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Mental Health Nurse Specialist, you will support and drive excellence in mental health care at Eldercare’s residential care homes throughout South Australia. This leadership role will provide an organisational mental health focus. You will build competence and capability of multi-disciplinary team members to deliver effective person-centered care which is aligned to our ‘Model of Care’ and optimises clinical outcomes for people with mental illness, positively influencing the mental health of all our residents. The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Mental Health Nurse Specialist role will build on Eldercare’s existing practices, with a particular focus on our clinical response, including screening, assessment, referral and day-to-day care. You will contribute to improved measuring and governance practices, and build staff capability through coaching, and informing staff education content. Reporting to the Specialist Nurse Manager, and working closely with Eldercare’s Wellbeing Program Coordinator, you will drive our Mental Health Approach, systematically supporting and implementing contemporary clinical practice for residents living with mental illness, developing relationships with external service providers, and contributing to the development of Eldercare’s trauma-informed care methodology. To succeed in this role you will need: Relevant mental health qualifications plus experience as an older persons Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (preferred) or mental health nurse specialist Demonstrated ability to lead and promote best practice mental health care. Ability to develop and foster high level skills in managing residents with mental illness Ability to build confidence and capability of clinicians and multi-disciplinary team members through effective coaching and mentoring Ability to partner effectively with internal and external partners to achieve identified organisational outcomes based on evidence-based practice. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and partner with consumers, families, and staff of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively, lead and contribute to continuous improvement. High level stakeholder engagement and consultation skills. Qualifications and Experience: Registration as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with AHPRA (Desired) OR Older Persons Mental Health Nurse Specialist with AHPRA registration and with experience as a Clinical Nurse in older persons mental health.
