Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Childrens Finance Manager on a 3 months contract initially with a possibility of further extension.
The Childrens Finance Manager is required for the City Council. The Childrens Finance Manager will contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives and those of the Portfolio.
You will ensure the provision of appropriate financial advice to Directors and Service Managers. Within the role, you will facilitate the overall improvement in the management and performance of the financial administration of the City Council, with particular regard to the financial and operational management of services.
This is a hybrid role; the successful person will be required to be office-based 2 days a week, these days can and will vary.
The role encompasses a number of technical accounting areas, including:
1. The provision of regular, cyclical and ad-hoc budgetary control information and advice to budget holders and managers at all levels.
2. Provide intelligent analysis of financial information to cost centre managers to assist in the financial management of services within the Portfolio.
3. Preparation of government financial returns.
4. Assisting with the preparation of the Council's accounts and dealing with audit queries.
5. Prepare financial appraisals and performance projections including input to the financial implications of service proposals.
6. Explore and advise managers on innovative solutions to problems and issues in a pro-active manner.
7. Respond to and action recommendations raised and agreed with Internal and External Audit, within agreed timescales.
Qualification and training Essential:
1. Part qualified (CCAB or CIMA part qualified or AAT/equivalent qualified with suitable experience).
2. Knowledge of financial software packages, enquiry packages and corporate accounting systems.
3. Experience of working accurately with procedures and deadlines in a financial environment and providing advice on those procedures.
4. Experience of and the ability to prepare budgets and final accounts within a framework of recognised accounting standards.
5. Experience of providing budgetary control and unit cost information.
6. Experience of providing financial information and advice to budget holders/non-finance managers.
7. Experience of carrying out data analysis and cost comparisons.
8. Experience of preparing government financial returns and grant claims.
