Project Support Engineer – X1 Position. TXM Recruit are looking for a Project Support Engineer working for one of our rail clients based in Newton Aycliffe on a contract basis. The successful person will be responsible for the delivery of fleets through the Routine Test & Commissioning process ensuring acceptance by the customers. Main Duties/Responsibilities: • Provide engineering and technical support at all points of the Test and Commissioning Life Cycle (e.g. from single car handover, through to Provisional Acceptance, handover to OS&M.). • Carry out routine test procedure creation and updates. • Support Software configuration assurance. • Attend Change control & Change review boards (CCB & CRB). • Review and support Engineering Fleet Check requirements and implementation. • Industrialisation of modifications. • Technical report writing. • Concession review, approval and closure. • Strong electrical fault-finding skills. Proficient in reading electrical circuit diagrams and Schematics. • Lead fault finding activities, supporting routine test & commissioning technicians to resolve issues. • Understand train requirements (legislative, safety, standards, compatibility and customer) and the train/component/train equipment design to identify the Test and Commissioning requirements. • Support the planning, co-ordination or resources, execution and analysis associated with Test & Commissioning, including the production of reports as required. • Support the development of Test and Commissioning procedures. Where necessary, support training of staff in these procedures and other technical documentation as required. • Interface with RSUK/Operations Engineering Team for investigation of maintenance and safety defects for vehicles and ensuring compliance with customer and UK legislative requirements. • Where necessary design the tools/equipment (jigs, test rigs, software test modules, simulations, instrumentation systems, etc.) necessary to support commissioning. • Support the development of detailed test programmes and work with colleagues to identify how the implementation of multiple tests can be optimised, to minimise the time/use of resources/trains. • Be proficient in the use of business Maintenance management systems (E.g. SAP, Neptune) • Be proficient in the use of GPLM/Windchill. • Support forums and presentations to customers, consultants, regulators, infrastructure owners (e.g. NoBo Reviews, Safety Management Review Group, Test Forum, etc.) • Lead / support investigations, diagnosis and resolution of issues, recording data from technical issues found through the test & delivery process. • Provide technical advice and support for Test Production Teams. • Proactively and constructively challenge practices and assumptions where there are opportunities to improve safety, improve quality and/or reduce waste. • Support and undertake internal audits to ensure engineering change and configuration processes are being adhered to. • Participate in lessons learnt activities with the overall aim of improving the product offering. • To adhere to the companies Equal Opportunities Policy. • To comply with and implement the companies Health and Safety policy. • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required. • To be flexible and prepared to deploy at short notice around the country when needed. • To be aware of and actively promote and implement the companies ethos, culture and values. Problem Solving: The role holder will be expected to understand and solve technical/engineering problems and develop solutions that are practical and enable safe and efficient test & commissioning activities. The role holder will also be expected to respond to faults and unexpected events, often in pressurised situations (such as on a dynamic run), where quick thinking is necessary to avoid programme delays. Communications: • The role holder will be expected to communicate effectively and professionally with various levels of internal and external stakeholders. • The role holder will be expected to constructively challenge any unsafe behaviour. Person Specification: Qualifications: • Engineering HND/HNC or equivalent. Skills/Knowledge: • Demonstrable technical support experience in a UK Rolling Stock environment. Desirable experience, introducing new products. • Experience of working in technical/engineering environments – understanding systems, communicating effectively and problem solving/fault finding. • Advanced IT skills – typically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SAP, Windchill, Visio & Sharepoint. • Understanding of Railway Operational Procedures. • Understanding of H&S practices and legislation. • Safety first approach to work. • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations. • Good written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate across different levels of business. • Able to represent the company in a professional manner at all times. • Strong communication skills - able to communicate clearly under pressure, both in person, by phone/radio and by email/message system. • Excellent attention to detail - able to provide accurate written record of events. • Demonstrable success working collaboratively within a team. • Able to work under pressure. Flexibility (Location, Hours, Travel): • This role requires flexibility. There will be periods where the job is office based – normal office hours. But there will also be periods during intense phase of projects where there will be a need for shifts, or to work flexible, unsociable hours, sometimes away from home for extended periods. • 40 hours per week. • Location is based at Newton Aycliffe
