As part of a growing and agile business, our Soils and Sustainable Land Management team is looking for a Senior or Principal Soils Consultant with a broad range of EIA experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate topic-specific input to Environmental Impacts Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business, and mentor others in the team.
As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.
We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate of unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.
You'll be instrumental in improving the understanding and sustainable management of soils and the impacts of land use change for a diverse range of projects including large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, large-scale mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm, and master planning projects. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of major multidisciplinary development projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Leading the coordination and delivery of soil and land use assessments as part of Environmental Impact Assessments of a wide range of projects.
* Coordinating and leading soil and Agricultural Land Classification surveys.
* Undertaking your own work to an excellent standard and reviewing the work of others.
* Working in partnership with other members of the Soils Team, the Impact Assessment Team, and members of related discipline teams across the UK.
* Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors, and quality assurance.
* Leading and supporting tender proposals/bids as part of a project winning team.
* Providing soils and land use advice and support to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
* Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
* Developing outstanding reports; the ability to summarize and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical.
* Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Experienced soil consultant/scientist with experience of Environmental Impact Assessment, preferably within a consultancy environment or with experience of multi-disciplinary working and broad sector experience.
* Experience of soil surveying, ideally including knowledge and experience of the Agricultural Land Classification system.
* Member of the British Society of Soil Science and Chartered/working towards chartership with an accredited Institution.
* Good knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment and the planning process in relation to soils and land use.
* Strong report writing, verbal, and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
* Experience in multi-disciplinary working, with good project management and technical skills.
* Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
* Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
* A valid UK driving license.
* Desired: Knowledge and application experience of carbon accounting in relation to soils and land use.
