As the final stage of the leadership review nears completion, we are very excited to welcome applications for the new Duty Officer role. This role is a vital component of our new leadership structure. The Duty Officer will assume 'on the day' responsibility for fleet & resource management within their area, dealing with any issues that arise during their rostered duty. Duty Officers will be fully trained to NARU Operational Commander level and provide a 24/7 Operational Command response throughout the whole footprint of the trust.
Main Duties of the Job
Duty Officer
Duty Officers will play a key role in the day-to-day management of hospital delays as part of their operational function, acting as a single point of contact for operational issues during their shift - assisting ICCs and local management teams to resolve issues.
Out of hours they will provide operational leadership within the areas, resolving staffing, vehicle, and estates issues. During the out of hours period the Duty Officers have a responsibility for all operational staff on duty, including PTS.
They will also support the ICC Colleagues in resolving operational issues.
Postholders will also have responsibility for the health and wellbeing of staff during their shift, responding to welfare and support needs. They will respond to requests for assistance from crews and complete initial fact-finding investigations around on shift issues. The Duty Officers will be qualified commanders and provide a first line response to complex and major incidents providing 24/7 cover throughout the trust.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24-hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed. We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
* HCPC registered Paramedic working to full scope of autonomous practice.
* Educated to degree level or relevant professional experience.
* Full UK driving licence, with C1.
* Appropriate emergency driving qualification.
* Operational Commander training or willing to work towards.
* Working knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act, Emergency Preparedness guidance, and Emergency Response and Recovery guidance.
Skills / Competencies Essential
* Knowledge of operational leadership and operational command in the Pre-hospital setting and able to demonstrate credibility.
* Expert communication skills.
* Leadership skills.
* Evidence of relevant commander CPD.
* Appreciation of NARU command standards and guidance.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team delivering clinical care.
