Overview of the role
The core accountabilities for the Equalities Co-ordinator will be to manage and advise on all aspects of and promote Equality throughout the Prison for Prisoners and Staff and ensure HMP Dovegate is fully compliant with all requirements.
You will be responsible for reviewing and developing policies and procedures ensuring that we remain compliant with law, legislation and NOMS Policy. Accountable for ensuring systems are in place to collate statistics on a monthly basis for performance reporting and develop effective Equality Strategies based around the protected characteristics.
Point of contact for communications relating to Prisoners and ensuring that they receive appropriate information on induction, as well as providing Equality Inductions for all new staff and offering guidance and support for all staff.
You will be responsible for implementing HIMP and internal audit actions and requirements and carry out peer audits in support of other sites.
Other duties include;
1. Maintain the process for responding to DIRFS and quality check responses.
2. Support Protected Characteristic Forums and the Leads that manage these.
3. Co-ordinate and maintain the Equality Action Plan ensuring that it is fed into the establishment PIP.
4. Co-ordinate the EIA process including risk prioritisation and quality assurance and take part in peer checks for other sites..
5. Prepare, contribute and attend DEAT Meetings.
6. Maintain, check and analyse Equalities Data (including NOMIS)
7. Establish positive links with appropriate forums and services.
8. Lead, assist or advise in investigations
About you
As the successful candidate you will be able to evidence substantial experience of working within an Equalities/ Diversity role. It would be advantageous if you hold an Equality and Diversity Level 2 Qualification or equivalent experience.
One of the core aspects of this role will be to deliver training to new starters so in order to enable you to do this you must hold a PTTLS qualification as a minimum.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills both verbally and written and evidence the ability to use IT systems and be proficient in all Microsoft Packages including word and excel.
Previous management or supervisory experience is essential.
