An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health Research Nurse/AHP to join the Research and Improvement team within Solent NHS Trust, based on the Isle of Wight. This position is full-time; however, job-sharing or part-time working will be considered.
Our vision is 'to lead and facilitate improvement through innovation, learning, and evidence-based care across our communities'.
Our ideal candidate will have extensive mental health experience with a keen interest in clinical research. Although research experience is desirable, it is not essential as full training will be provided.
This role will focus on identifying, setting up, and delivering research studies in community MH/OPMH services, as well as care homes. You will be involved in the identification, recruitment, education, and monitoring of participants in research, along with accurate and timely data collection.
As well as working with our clinical teams, a core component of our research is our community research partnership model, in which we work collaboratively with other care organisations to deliver studies. We work with care homes, schools, charities, and community organisations.
There may be a requirement to cover research in other service lines, so willingness to work flexibly is an essential aspect of this post. You will need a full UK driving license and have access to a car.
Main duties of the job
The role of the MH/OPMH Research Nurse/AHP is to take responsibility for the identification of clinical trials appropriate for the clinical service, facilitation of these trials, and once open, their ongoing management and care of patients and participants. The post holder will ensure that participant care, treatment, assessment, follow-up, and data collection are coordinated according to the appropriate research protocols. They will ensure that research will be conducted in accordance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines to provide assurance that the rights, safety, and well-being of trial participants are protected.
The post-holder will work as a self-directed practitioner, working closely with the Chief / Principal Investigator and other members of the research team to manage the care of patients who participate in clinical trials within the Trust.
The post-holder will be responsible for promoting research within Trust departments and the wider community and supporting colleagues and local investigators to deliver high-quality studies to support patient care.
You'll have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills with an eye for detail. The ability to work well within a team, as well as the ability to work independently, is an essential aspect of this role.
About us
We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health, and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.
Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation, which will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.
The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health, and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
