Lead pharmacist – Ophthalmology and Surgery
This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist pharmacist to work with the ophthalmology directorate based at the Western Eye Hospital (WEH) and Charing Cross Hospital. The department sees over 5,000 outpatients a month and provides a tertiary referral service for West London. There is an emergency ophthalmology department which offers a 24 hour emergency service, 7 days a week to the local population and for complex referred emergency work. The WEH emergency ophthalmology team are part of the Imperial Major Trauma centre.
There is an increased demand for eye care nationally. Ophthalmology has emerging new medicines technologies making this a superb opportunity for a specialist pharmacist interested in Ophthalmology and Surgery.

Main duties of the job
* Provide a patient focused clinical pharmacy service to ophthalmology and surgery specialties.
* Integrate into the surgical pharmacy and ophthalmology teams.
* Develop role as a specialist pharmacist in ophthalmology, support the WEH dispensary operationally and clinically.
* Participate in medicines management including managing stock inventories as per service need.
* Input into the procurement of specialist medicines used in ophthalmology.
* Provide clinical pharmacy, departmental and ward based services.
* Provide education and training.

Person Specification
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.
* Undertakes continuing professional development (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio.
* Performance and Development Review (PDR) Training.
Experience
* Appropriate post-registration training and experience in hospital Pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice.
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working.
* Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options for patients.
* Experience in delivering education and training.
* Experience of working in surgical, or high dependency wards.
* Experience of using electronic prescribing systems.
Skills/knowledge/abilities
* Good clinical practice knowledge.
* Ability to demonstrate critical-thinking, advanced decision-making skills, risk assessment and analytical ability for problem solving.
* Ability to communicate empathetically with patients.
* Good ability to manage and make change.
* Word and Excel at an advanced level.
* Experience of using electronic prescribing systems.
