My client, a leading independent consultancy in the ecology and landscape sector, is seeking enthusiastic and passionate Senior Ecologists to join their teams in either Brighton, Ashwell, Tewkesbury, and Basingstoke. This role offers the chance to work with a friendly and dedicated team, contributing to a variety of projects that deliver great outcomes for both people and nature. Appointments at Principal or Consultant Ecologist level will also be considered.
As a Senior Ecologist, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in landscape, masterplanning, and archaeology/heritage, broadening your understanding of planning and development. This role promises a diverse and interesting range of work, from strategic planning to project implementation, allowing you to make a significant impact in the field of ecology.

Responsibilities & Tasks
1. Coordinate and deliver high-quality ecological work across various projects.
2. Develop and mentor junior team members.
3. Lead and/or coordinate protected species surveys.
4. Prepare and/or oversee Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and mitigation strategies.
5. Maintain strong client relationships and represent the consultancy in a professional manner.
6. Stay updated with the latest survey techniques, guidance, and innovations.
7. Participate in night-time surveys and occasional overnight stays during the main survey season.
Ideal Candidate Profile
1. Relevant degree in ecology/biology (2:1 or above desirable).
2. Experience in protected species surveys, including personal species survey licences.
3. Proficient in habitat surveys (including UKHab) and possess sound botanical skills.
4. Strong knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and QGIS.
7. Highly organised, able to multi-task, and a strong team player.
8. Forward-thinking and committed to continuous professional development.
9. Willingness to undertake night-time surveys and occasional overnight stays.
10. Full, clean UK driving licence with own car insured for business use.
11. Membership of CIEEM (ACIEEM or above).
