The post holder is a member of a multidisciplinary team developing the use of hepatocyte transplantation, and related cell-based therapies, in children with liver disease. They will be based at two locations the Institute of Liver Studies laboratories and the Cell Isolation Unit. The post is split between research (80-90%) and GMP cell isolation work (10-20%). The post holder is responsible for the development of new extracellular matrix-based biomaterials for 3D bioprinting applications and will be working within the 3D bioprinting team which is investigating new advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) for paediatric liver disease using 3D bioprinting technology. They also perform cell isolations aiming to produce high quality cells for clinical administration. The post holder should have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering/Cell Biology or equivalent experience with tissue engineering or relevant area of engineering and / or scientific research. Experience working with biomaterials and/or ECM proteins is desirable. The post holder will conduct independent research into ECM-based bioinks for liver tissue engineering applications; collaborate closely with another senior researcher and a PhD student as part of the bioprinting sub-group within the lab; present their work in weekly research meeting; provide support and advice to students within the group; develop figures, search scientific literature, assist in writing manuscripts, submit abstracts, and present data at local and international meetings; participate in the isolation of liver cells under good manufacturing practices (GMP); Attend educational sessions, such as relevant lectures and journal clubs.
