These Sub-specialty training posts in Interventional Radiology are aimed at radiology trainees who possess a National Training Number (NTN) in radiology and have successfully completed at least 3 years of radiology training with satisfactory Annual Review of Competence (ARCP) outcomes. The aim of these posts will be to support training for a CCT in Clinical Radiology with Interventional Radiology Sub-specialty subject to satisfactory outcomes at ARCP. Appointment will be by application and competitive interview. These posts are suitable for candidates who will have completed ST3 and will be able to take up this post at ST4 level. The training will be as per the RCR Interventional Radiology Curriculum. The successful candidate will be required to obtain the FRCR during the course of this training (if this has not been already achieved) and also pass the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) exam. Training in a full range of vascular and non-vascular Interventional Radiology procedures will be provided. The training can be individually tailored to the post holder’s training needs.
The trainee will use the RCR section in RISR/advance e-portfolio and actively engage in RCR WpBAs. As per RCR requirements for a CCT with Interventional Radiology subspecialisation, the trainee will defer CCT by one year and will be awarded the CCT with IR subspecialisation at the end of year 6 based on successful ARCP outcomes.
The successful candidate will have achieved general radiology competencies in ST1-ST3 and this post will aim at gaining higher level 1 and level 2 competencies in Interventional Radiology skills. At the same time they will be required to maintain general radiology skills.
The post holder will be on call for general radiology on a no fewer than 1:7 basis on a partial shift system with prospective cover. In year 6 depending on progression, you will take part in the emergency interventional radiology on call rota (1:5).
