Position Summary:


The Histotechnician plays a vital role in supporting the Mohs surgeon by ensuring accurate and efficient preparation of tissue specimens. This includes assisting with specimen grossing, tissue processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and maintaining a clean and well-functioning laboratory environment.

Essential Functions:

To perform effectively in this role, the candidate must fulfill the following duties with or without reasonable accommodations:

* Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of histology, laboratory procedures, and quality control standards.
* Embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens efficiently and in adherence to established policies, procedures, and laboratory standards.
* Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with superiors, peers, physicians, and patients.
* Maintain strong organizational abilities and proficiency in relevant computer applications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

* 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology courses, OR
* 24 semester hours in science courses, with at least 6 hours in chemistry, 6 hours in biology, and 12 hours in a combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
* Associate degree in chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
* Completion of 60 semester hours (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
* Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Mohs procedures.
* Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or Histotechnician (HT, ASCP).
* Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory equipment operation.

o Occasionally lift, push, pull, or move up to 20 pounds.
* Vision Requirements:
o Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
