Main duties of the job
1. Be able to communicate effectively, be empathetic, compassionate and patient with service users.
2. Be non-judgemental in approach and think and act calmly.
3. Maintain confidentiality; promote a therapeutic environment, which acknowledges diversity and cultural difference.
4. Demonstrate a good understanding of mental health issues.
5. Ensure that service users engage effectively with the agreed care plans and access appropriate activities provided on a regular and consistent basis.
6. Positively promote independent living of service users.
7. Communicate routine information in an arena where there will be barriers to understanding, and use tact and persuasion in a non-aggressive manner.
8. Develop a rapport based upon companionship and friendship, but within appropriate and transparent boundaries.
9. Provide regular and practical support to service users and their carers in developing and managing dignity and independence.
10. Provide support with daily living activities and be prepared to assist with practical tasks (feeding, bathing etc).
11. Maintain adequate records, as required by existing procedures, entering appropriate details in the service users' case notes, as necessary.
12. Take into account the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, Infection Control, food hygiene regulations.
13. Attend and participate in agreed training, development and supervision sessions, as an individual and part of the team.
