IT System Administrator Oxford £37,000 - £45,000 Our clients IT Department is responsible for the administration, maintenance and development of the computing facilities throughout the College. The IT Department is led by the IT Manager who is assisted by a Systems Administrator, an IT and AV Technician and a part-time Graduate Computer Assistant. Role Objectives Reporting to the IT Manager, the Senior System Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the College’s computer systems. The postholder will troubleshoot the IT systems when there is an issue and will perform the necessary checks to make sure all systems are working fine and up to date. The duties will also include the installation and maintenance of software updates, and the implementation of security software and tools to ensure maximum security from outside threats. The tasks will be wide ranging and will require the postholder to be flexible to meet the demands of the post. The postholder must be willing to provide advice and, in the unlikely event, attend emergency situations out of hours. This role requires 5 days a week on-site in Oxford Responsibilities and duties To fully deputise for the IT Manager in his/her absence. Assist in the day-to-day running, maintenance, administration and development of IT facilities Assist in the procurement, maintenance, repair and upgrading of computing equipment. Provide L2 support whilst also assisting and resolving L1 issues. Maintain the security, integrity and health of systems. Perform system administration on websites. Organise and (where appropriate) deliver IT training to the user base. Help maintain hardware inventories, software licensing, and warranty provisions. Communicate with IT Services, and Departments as required. Work with the IT Manager when planning and investigating future IT projects and investment. Ensure the IT department works to minimise its risk by ensuring that good documentation exists. Assist with infrastructure and systems administration tasks to support a range of operating systems and software. Monitor the support ticketing system. Track, prioritize and manage issues as they arise. Identify IT and administrative practices that can be improved, streamlined or automated. Assist with the support of Audio Visual equipment. Liaise with third party suppliers and assist in the procurement of IT equipment. Carry out other duties as and when required. What you will need A computational degree or equivalent experience. Previous experience in supervising and/or mentoring staff, including undertaking inductions and training. Excellent troubleshooting skills across a wide range of IT. Wide range of experience with Microsoft Windows and Office. Good understanding of Microsoft Group Policies, AD, print management, RDS and LDAP. Understanding of network essentials: TCP/IP, switching, VLAN’s, routing, and DHCP. Windows and Linux server systems administration skills. Experience of virtualisation. Application deployment technologies such as Group Policy, MDT, SCCM or Altiris. Self-motivated, quick learner, able to work unsupervised and to contribute as an effective member of the team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong customer service focus.
